With a strong heroine in mind for SS14, Trager Delaney have re-worked signature pieces while continuing to explore new shapes and fabrics, against a palate of Petrol, Scarlet, Powder Pink, Black and Ivory.
This season, the Trager Delaney girl is born into a close and loving German family from the Black Forest but is tragically orphaned at a young age. She finds herself in a Catholic orphanage for six years, where she ponders the world beyond her, refusing to believe that God is the beginning or the end. She looks to new religions, new beliefs and finds Scientology.
In 1979 at 18 years of age, she moves to LA, brimming with curiosity and distain for the life she has been handed; while she enjoys exploring her new found religion.
With no money in her pocket she is quickly swallowed into the underworld of seedy movies and ‘artistic nudity’. Young and beautiful she soon finds herself deep in LA’s nightlife. She consciously focuses on LA’s art scene and stands out with her nonchalant indifference to everyone’s insecurities and pretensions.
Sitting down for dinner one night, she meets Aristotle Onassis who wants her because everyone else does, he wants her to be his. He flies her from party to party. She is flung from Cannes to Gstaad to Los Angeles and then ultimately to the Spanish countryside on the island of Mallorca. Lust soon subsides and she finds herself a new life there with the locals, the bull fights. She adores animals and she loves riding. She dreams of the man she should have married. He is genuine and rough, sticky from sweat and handles a gun. Her best friend lives near the harbour, they spend nights smoking cigarettes drinking Campari and skinny dipping. She never refills the ice tray.
She has cats, a four-poster bed and a boat and a beach. He dies and she wonders what will happen to him.
She herself on a family holiday to Aspen, she is too old for such a thing, but it is free and she suspects some form of fun could be had with the locals. She used to fight against mother and grandmother and every cocktail they make her go to, in clothes they pick for her. She has given up. Her father spends an inordinate amount of time in outdoor swimming pool with a girl that everyone pretends not to see, while the mother has one too many lessons with the young and handsome snowboarding teacher. She is left to spend long days with her grandmother, whom's taste is unparalleled. One evening while her grandmother falls asleep, she heads out to Aspen town and finds a group of the locals. She identifies with their rebellion of luxury and all the money that surrounds them. Christopher Wallace, Bill Cosby and a young Neil Young all represent the rebellion that she dreams of holding. She falls hard in love for their weed dealer and they leave that night in his beige Volvo sliding on the icy roads and smoking one cigarette after the other. They drive back to her hotel where she throws her clothes into her suitcase. Her wardrobe is then forced to transform into a new a fresh start, she worked with what she has, demure neckline and long dresses and skirts that her mother and grandmother have brought her mixed with her ski sweatshirts and trousers. New age fabric mix with classic silk crepes in red, mint and a earthy brown. She has to fit in now, to her own rebellion. She hangs her hand out the window in defiance of the icy air.
